Soul singer. Born Aretha Louise Franklin on March 25, 1942 in Memphis, Tennessee. She started to sing in church choirs and joined her father's travelling gospel revue at the age of fourteen.
In 1967 Franklin gained fame with the release ‘I Never Loved a Man the Way I Love You’.
Her passionate virtuoso singing and tight arrangements give her music an eloquent intensity. In 2005 she was awarded with the Presidential Medal of Freedom. In 2006, she received her 18th Grammy Award for "A House Is Not a Home".
